THE MÓN
CASTELLER MUSEUM:
OUR WORLD, YOUR EXHILARATION

A COMMITTED, ACTIVE AND INNOVATIVE MUSEUM

Món Casteller, the Human Tower Museum of Catalonia, shares the casteller values: inclusivity, diversity, and tolerance. It is a moving, touching space, a rush of dynamic and life-affirming feelings, unique and immersive, just like a colla castellera (human tower team). The MCC strives to go beyond a mere exhibition space to become an open centre dedicated to the casteller cultural phenomenon.
Món Casteller is an innovative and technological tour through the essence of building human towers. Who are the people behind the castells? What individual and collective feelings do they evoke?
Welcome to the heart of the casteller world.

A FIRST-RATE MUSEUM INSIDE AND OUT: BUILDING AND COLLECTION

The Museum, designed by architect Dani Freixas, National Design Award winner and National Prize for Architecture and Public Space recipient, has 2,900 m2 of space distributed over four floors.
This is an innovative proposal in terms of both architectural design and the museum’s collection, based on cutting-edge immersive audio-visual and exhibition technologies, designed by Ignasi Cristià, a museum designer who has won several international awards.

THREE ACTS

COURAGE • GOOD SENSE AND BALANCE • STRENGTH

The values represented by Catalan Renaissance poet Josep Anselm Clavé, values that have become the casteller motto, take us on a journey in three acts through this internationally recognised Catalan cultural phenomenon. Courage refers to that which drives people to build human towers. Good sense (“seny”), that self-defining Catalan concept of levelheadedness, and balance are the keys to understanding how human towers are possible. And strength is the rush of emotions that culminate in a human tower.

COURAGE
GOOD SENSE AND BALANCE
STRENGTH

COURAGE

ACT I

The first act, dedicated to COURAGE, focuses on humans’ ancient impulse to conquer the sky. Visitors can experience first-hand the vertigo the enxaneta (the child who forms the uppermost level) feels at the very top of a human tower for a better understanding of what it is that drives someone to make this journey to the top and achieve the impossible.

GOOD SENSE AND BALANCE

ACT II

GOOD SENSE and BALANCE represent wisdom, technique and experience: they will be the focus of the second part of the story. The history of the human towers is told through spaces called pinyes, taking visitors through the start of a tower, to its consolidation and growth; its technical practice; the music; the colla (team); the spirit of achievement; the dedication; the mutual trust and respect. The casteller world in all its dimensions.

STRENGTH

ACT III

The final act focuses on STRENGTH and reflects the ultimate performance, the pinnacle of all that has been seen on the museum tour. An installation that showcases the enthusiasm and passion of a successful human tower performance through an unforgettable immersive and sensory experience.
